Taking a new approach
because I couldn't bring just part of me to this community
If you’re a follower, you’ve seen my original title “A Stack of Words” and that I’ve replaced it with a new one: “Facts and Faith, Trust and Truth.” This new title reveals more of who and what I am and helps me bring more of myself here to Substack.
I started “A Stack of Words” because I was looking for a tool where I could sort of bookmark and collect my favorite poems and quotations, and I hadn’t found anything great. I figured, well, might as well make it a blog, but I don’t want to do the WordPress thing yet one more time. It’s been a lovely place to post some poems and my response to them… but it started to feel like it wasn’t a good place to comment on health, my studies in epidemiology, working toward a doctoral degree, or experiences at the day job.

The new title — Facts and Faith, Trust and Truth — revealed itself to me a few weeks ago, and I thought it was a perfect set of concepts for someone who is deeply interested in science, spirituality, epistemology, ontology, pedagogy, theology, linguistics, philosophy, and more. All of these are linked and interwoven into a rich tapestry, and somewhere in the vast and eternal tapestry that is the universe, you’ll find the place where I am woven in with everyone else.
So I hope you’ll stay with me on this journey, while I explore all of myself—maybe all of humanity—and talk about these very important concepts. And if it’s time to part ways, then I wish you only the very best on your own new path. So hey! Let’s go!

What a fabulous combination of topics. My daughter is studying Religious Studies for her final A level exams (we’re UK) and is applying to read philosophy at university so I’ve been reading more philosophy myself. It’s fascinating.
On the name change - it’s a tough one. I’m going to change mine in the next couple of weeks. I like it but I’m sure if it will tell readers what I’m doing 🤷♀️
Your new name is great 😊
